Special Projects - Feather Down Farm Days
'Het Betere BoerenBed', a highly successful Dutch company, operates luxury camping units on genuine working farms and helps farmers to diversify. In April 2006, they decided to expand into the UK market.
Through a recommendation the Director, Luite Moraal (who helped set-up Center Parcs), approached David Goodey, director of Frome Business Services, for help with establishing the UK business.
David set-up the UK legal company, bank and merchant service accounts, book-keeping, the office, recruited staff, helped co-ordinate the marketing and site building and all the other necessary but often overlooked tasks for a new business.
He also travelled around 20,000 miles visiting farmers around the country to explain how the scheme works and to assess the suitability of both the farms and the farmers.
In 2007, Feather Down Farm Days operated with 10 farms around the UK with David signing a further 10 farms for 2008. Now the project is more mature, day-to-day and farm recruitment roles have been handed on to permanent staff.
